Did you know that Mauritius is the habitat of giant tortoises? Unfortunately, like the dodo, the native species met a similar fate and became extinct in the 1700s.

The Mauritian Wildlife Foundation introduced Aldabra Giant Tortoises from the Seychelles in 2000 to revive our island’s natural beauty. Head to Ile aux Aigrettes, a protected nature reserve turned into a haven for rare species through devoted conservation. Here, witness both baby and full-grown tortoises leisurely grazing and dozing, surrounded by rare birds and plants.

Your contribution not only supports giant tortoise conservation but also offers you a direct connection to the preservation of our island’s unique ecosystem.

As you delve into our marine world at the Marine Discovery Centre in Anse La Raie, interacting with passionate marine biologists and supporting ongoing research, your stay with Unwind Mauritius transforms into a deeply personal and purposeful adventure, leaving a lasting positive impact on our beautiful island.
