A compact, sheltered beach with shops and restaurants a few steps behind it — the easiest swim in the north if you want everything within reach and do not mind company.
Pereybère sits between Grand Baie and Cap Malheureux, and its beach is small — a shallow bay of pale sand set into rock at both ends, with the village road running immediately behind it. That proximity is the appeal: cafes, restaurants, dive shops, supermarkets and rental places are all within a minute’s walk of the water, which very few beaches in Mauritius can claim.
The bay is sheltered and shallow, with clear water and a sandy bottom in the middle and rocky edges either side that hold enough small reef fish to be worth a mask. It is one of the safer swims on the north coast and a long-standing favourite with both Mauritian families and visitors staying in the area, which means it is also one of the busiest. On weekends and public holidays the sand fills early and parking on the surrounding streets becomes a genuine problem. Weekday mornings are a different beach entirely.
Sheltered, shallow and clear — one of the safer swims in the north. No lifeguards. Rocky at both ends of the bay, so water shoes help if you are snorkelling.
A mask and snorkel and not much else — food, drink, gear and shops are all a minute from the sand.

On the coast road between Grand Baie and Cap Malheureux, signposted from the village. Parking is on the surrounding streets and fills quickly.
