A long, open sweep of sand on the south coast where the lagoon is unusually shallow and the horse riding comes down to the water — one of the emptiest beaches you can still park beside.
Riambel stretches along the south coast between Pomponette and Souillac, and its defining feature is how far the shallows run. At low tide the lagoon retreats a long way out, leaving wide flats of firm sand and ankle-deep water that catch the light — which is why this is one of the few beaches on the island where horse riding along the shore is a familiar sight rather than a novelty. Filao trees back the sand and give patchy shade, and the coast road runs close enough that you can park almost anywhere along it.
It is a quiet beach, and it stays quiet because there is nothing here: no hotels on the public stretch, no vendors, no facilities. Swimming is limited by the shallows rather than by danger — you can wade a long way without getting past your knees, and the deeper water sits well out. That makes it excellent for walking, for children paddling and for photographs, and poor for anyone who wants to actually swim. Bel Ombre, ten minutes west, is the better choice for that. At weekends local families arrive with picnics; the rest of the week you may have the length of it to yourself.

Not really. The lagoon is exceptionally shallow — you can wade a long way out without reaching swimming depth. It is safe and calm for paddling, but Bel Ombre ten minutes west is the better choice for a proper swim.
