The colonial house of Domaine Des Aubineaux was built in 1872 out of teak and other local woods taken from demolished ships and is home to several antiques, furniture’s and paintings dated back to the 18th century.
The residence was one of the first to be equipped with electricity on the Island. It was inhabited by the Guimbeau family native of France and established in Mauritius for eight generations now.
Le Domaine des Aubineaux was converted into a museum in 2000, after the death of Myriam Guimbeau spouse of Major Philippe Guimbeau, who was the last occupant of the mansion.
Les Aubineaux Restaurant opened their doors in 2008. Their menu offers an authentic Mauritian cuisine combined with the French savoir-faire.
A stroll in the beautiful floral park of Le Domaine des Aubineaux is a must. The garden harbors many rare trees such as Camphor trees, Chalta trees and conifers including one conifer which is more than 500 years old.
