Blue as far as the eyes can see! That’s the overwhelming feeling you will get! The wildest and most beautiful landscapes of Mauritius are hidden! On this South East tour, we will show you sandy beaches bordered by cliffs and carved by waves, rocky shores, sugar cane fields, waterfalls and mountainous terrains offering magnificent panoramas.
Our first stop will be at Eau Bleu Waterfall located on the central plateau of the Island. Relish the curious effects the light plays on your eyes, giving the body of water a blue like appearance. The azure colours coupled with the calm and soothing sounds of the waterfall, gives this ‘secret’ little pocket of nature a near heaven like atmosphere.
Translating into “Natural Bridge”, Pont Naturel is not such a well-known attraction. This only plays into your favour as you will be able to enjoy this experience with little to no disturbance, and trust us when we say this is not an experience anyone with a sane mind would want to miss. Found on the southern coast of Mauritius, Pont Naturel is a beautiful beach, but with a twist. This beach is not about white sand and calm blue lagoons but rather about rocks and extremely rough waves. The main attraction of the beach is a bridge which might appear man made but has been formed through years of huge waves beating on the volcanic rocks. Sit back and enjoy the view of the rough sea striking this magnificent natural formation surrounded by only the noise of the sea and barely any disruption.
Based in the Savannah Sugar Estate in the south, Le Souffleur is yet another amazing natural phenomenon occurring on the southern coast of the island. When the seas are rough and the waves extremely strong, they crash into the rock formation at “Le Souffleur” and pass through tiny holes from which they emerge with extreme force as the water rises to heights up to 20 m.
Burrowed in the village of Camp Diable, stands erected one of the most beautiful temples of the island. Legend goes that, during the 19th century, when all rocks were being removed at that spot for the plantation of sugarcane, one specific rock proved impossible to lift or even break, despite also the owner trying different methods. The locals then started to deem the rock holy and began to worship it. Some say that the rock was a statue of Amma Tookay. The Tookay temple was then built around this rock. Standing several meters tall with impressive sculptures of vibrant colours, Tookay temple is a favourite of many tourists as well as locals.
Enjoy lunch with a view at Andrea Lodge. Situated along the enchanting South Coast of Mauritius Island, Andrea Lodges stands as a distinctive gem, offering uninterrupted views of the Indian Ocean on one side and lush vegetation and sugar cane fields on the other. The scenery gracefully descends along the Rivière des Anguilles until converging with the basaltic cliffs, where the tumultuous waves collide. Experience the seamless beauty of Andrea Lodges, where nature's wonders blend harmoniously with breathtaking ocean panoramas.
The southernmost beach of Mauritius, Gris Gris, is far from the habitual white sandy ones with a calm blue lagoon but is still magnificent albeit in a different manner. Instead of white sand, you are greeted by a rocky cliff which descends steeply into the rough sea where huge waves are king. The absence of coral reef in this part of the island means the ocean waves reach the coast undisturbed, with all their might. Take a stroll along the cliffs as you watch the waves crash and send showers of water. On the furthest right end of the cliff, you are offered a panoramic view of the cliffs and waves dancing violently off them.
Discover the spectacular 33-foot waterfall with multiple cascading falls hidden in the region of Souillac. The falls draws its charm into the Savanne River and with its magnificent rectangular rock, Rochester is famed as the widest fall on the island at an elevation of 152 meters above sea level. When the currents are favourable, you might also find some daring locals jumping off the 10 m cliff into the water, but bear in mind that they are experts and know the waterfalls inside out. The best feature of Rochester Falls is the ability for visitors to experience the falls from the front, bottom, side, and top! Refresh yourself with cool coconut water and unwind in the idyllic atmosphere surrounded with greenery and sugar cane plantation. If you are lucky, you will be amazed to see the locals dive into the water.
We recommend comfortable walking shoes and lightweight casual attire to enhance your exploration experience.
For this experience, we recommend bringing sunglasses, a sunhat, and a towel if you plan to take a swim at Rochester Falls.
